I'm so happy for yelp. ?? we wanted to try someplace new in Haleiwa that has great reviews, and I saw that Opal Thai had 4 stars and over a thousand reviews…so naturally, why not?! Anyway, we sat down, then a man, who I believe is the Opel mentioned in the reviews, asks us questions like where are we from, what kind of Thai foods have we eaten, and how spicy do we like our food. Then he tells us not to worry about ordering and heads to the kitchen. The dishes started to come, and it was pretty much like a Thai omakase. He and the servers would never reveal the dishes until the end. We kept asking what was brought to the table, and they would say "Thai Food." I'm an adventurous eater, so I didn't care! First dishes were sauteed green beans and bell peppers, sweet and spicy glazed chicken wings with crispy basil (yes! Flash fried basil!), followed by the best pork larb I have ever had (it was packed with so much flavor: mint, cilantro, fish sauce, lime!) Then he gave us this dish which we found out in the end was sting ray (don't know the name. We just know it was like radish cakes.) Then our main entrees arrived: duck pad see ew, crab fried rice, and shrimp and veggie red curry. We enjoyed every dish that was given to us!! However, we didn't plan to spend so much $$ for lunch. I would definitely go again, but I won't let him choose the food for us. He's lucky his food and personality were great! My wallet just wasn't too happy.
